Gua Sha

What is Gua Sha?

Traditionally called spooning, coining, or scraping, Gua Sha is an instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization technique to break up fascial restrictions and scar tissue adhesions in the myo-fascia (muscle and connective tissue) to relieve chronic muscle spasms and tension patterns that can be the root cause of chronic pain.

This therapy breaks up fascial adhesions and scar tissue. The red-purple strips seen are ‘sha’ or polluted blood being released from the tissue. This technique stimulates angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth) which promotes blood circulation to the muscles.

How will I feel after?

Right after a Gua Sha session, you’ll likely feel a deep sense of release — like your muscles just exhaled for the first time in days. Tension melts. Stiffness softens. And as the stagnation clears, most people describe a warm, soothing sensation that lingers long after the treatment ends.

Some people feel energized — like a fog has lifted. Others feel incredibly relaxed, almost floaty, as if they just had the best nap of their life. If you’ve been dealing with pain, you may notice immediate relief or a significant decrease in discomfort.

While there might be some redness or light bruising in the area treated (a natural and expected response), you’ll likely feel looser, lighter, and more aligned.

It’s like your body finally got the reset it’s been craving.
